One of the holiest Hindu holy places in Nepal, the Pashupatinath Sanctuary is extended across both the banks of the delightful and hallowed Bagmati Waterway on the eastern edges of the capital city of Kathmandu. The sublime sanctum gave to Master Shiva attracts a great many enthusiasts who come to offer their petitions and look for favors from him. Spread over a huge region with sanctuaries and ashrams, it is accepted that the Jyotirlinga housed in the Pashupatinath sanctuary is the top of the body which is comprised of the twelve Jyotirlinga in India. In 1979, the glorious sanctuary was pronounced a UNESCO World Legacy Site. The Pashupatinath Temple receives large groups of devotees throughout the year. However, during the festivals Maha Shivaratri, Teej, and Bala Chaturthi, the temple is decked with lights and garlands and takes on an ethereal appearance.
